Geeezzz, that is like comparing a 1990 Toyota Camry 
to a 2001 Corolla.  I would go with the Elan 7e since it
provides you far more accurate flash technology, can handle 
vertical and horizontal focusing (if you are using eye control),
has better an improved metering, faster AF algortihm, etc.
Basically newer technology overall.  Granted you don't
have a PC connection for studio flash but for $15 there are 
adapters that can easily do this. Besides, a camera that is
already 10 years old is like a car.  They eventually experience
more problems as they age. So get yourself something new and 
avoid potential headaches.
