I've got a 28-135 is lens and it does make a sort of swishy noise for about
1/2 sec after you depress the shutter button
it is nothing to worry about in most cases, as it is just the gryos making
the lens stable, if you look though the viewfinder whilst this is happening
you can see the image move once the noise stops, though the effect will
depend on the conditions, it is noticeable on windy days handheld.

Really? To me the noise is louder than what I'm used to with USM lenses, 
or at least it is very different, sharper noise.
