Hmmm, that doesn't sound right. The IS on my 28-135 is barely audible under most conditions. In fact I'm always forgetting whether "I" or "O" is on and off and putting my ear to the lens to see if it's on. It's quite difficult to hear. On mine USM is defineitly louder.
