I am afraid that the 1V is the last one. We only have to look back at
the birth of the T-90. I saved and scrimped to get one when it came out;
but in just a few short years all R&D went to Eos and AF. It is a camera
that I love, still have two of them.
I think we will see the same here; every effort will be placed on
digital cameras. I think the first company that comes out with a camera
that matches film will be the marketing winner. Film based cameras in
35mm are a dead breed, as far as R&D funding goes.
As to 1v being a demand item for press photogs... thats dead. They/we
have too many tight deadlines to fill to have to wait for a film based
image. When you want to shoot film, there is enough top quality cameras
in the stable to use, especially in the Canon barn, to be able to get
what you want.
Currently the only film based cameras on the rise are medium format
models. With an interchangeable back system, the investment does not
die. You can go both ways, film or digi. Look at the sudden progress in
the 645 models out. The R&D $ is being spent there, and it is a format
that can still compete for... a few years? 2? 5?
So lets enjoy the 1v, but look for the super 1D as the baby of choice.
