Hello all,

I've only been lurking for a few days, and haven't entirely made up my
mind if this is a professional-only list, or amateurs&pros
alongside...?

Anyway. I'm an 'aspiring' photographer, having attended (soon to
finish) a photo course - very, very inspiring.

I have the ancient EOS 650, purchased while on assignment in Montreal
in 1988, it was very new then, the salesman was over-enthusiastic
about the camera. Since then, it has followed me wherever I took my
equipment.

Now I want to upgrade my gear, having found out that the 650 is
somewhat... old-fashioned :)

I've set my eyes on the EOS 3, looking to me like a solid piece of
equipment that is favored both by pros and amateurs. My husband is in
Houston these days (we live in Norway), and he's found a used EOS 3
for which he's offered $640 (asking 695). I await more information,
but I think it's only the body, without the power booster.
FYI, there's one used advertised here in Norway, asking price is $830.

My questions are:
Will my old lenses and speedlite co-operate well, or at all with the
EOS 3? I currently own a 35-70mm f/3,5-4,5, a 70-210 f/4, and a
speedlite 420EZ.
I plan to gradually upgrade the rest of my gear. I'm just wondering if
it's at all a working setup for the time being, while I'm accumulating
the finances to buy newer lenses.

One of my primary needs for a 'new' camera is the weatherproof and
rugged appearance that the 3 seems to have. It will have to survive at
the back of my motorcycle (in a bag, of course!), during cold weather
(it gets quite cold hereabouts during winter), on sailing trips, and
so on.
I don't mind a 'heavy' camera, that's not a problem.

If there's any reason at all why I shouldn't buy the EOS 3, please let
me know. Also, if I shouldn't buy the 3, which is a better choice?

And, before you ask, I have read Jonathan Kwok's extensive review -
thankyou, Jonathan! Very interesting reading.
I have also read a lot of user comments, and so far nothing has been
bad enough to scare me off.

Best,
Grethe / Norway
