I have a monopod that I use and like a lot, a Bogen 3249, but not for macro. Doesn't go low enough, for one thing, and really doesn't give enough stability in the macro situations that require support.
For macro support, I either use my tripod with its legs splayed, and sometimes with its center post mtd horizontally, or - and this is what I would recommend the most - a minipod with a focusing rail. I have a Novoflex minipod, which is a great piece of German-engineered metal, and a Velbon focusing rail. I often but a ballhead between the minipod and the rail, for maximum flexibility. I bought two of the Bogen tilt-swivel heads - the 3229 and 3229QR - and I can't stand them. The knob is very badly designed in my opinion, and the lock down isn't smooth. There a portion of the travel that's very jerky when you back a little off full tension. Wanna buy 'em? ;-) Ken Durling Visit my new easier-to-browse PhotoSIG portfolio: http://www.photosig.com/viewuser.php?id=203 * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
