Dunno about the why. One answer for the "how" is using a Manfrotto 331 =
Bogen 3422 monopod support to incline the monopod handsfree.

I was going to buy the 331 for my 334B, but then discovered that the
tripod mount ring for my EF 100mm USM macro does not work when using
a BP-300 or BP-50 :-(
