The monopod I have is a Bogen 3249 (which has recently been replaced by the
model 680). The head I'm currently using is just a simple quick release,
that is difficult to use with the 1D body unless I use a 1.4X extender
(which I don't for hockey shoots because I cannot afford the 1-stop
penalty).

I have used the 3018 (I think that's hte number) with the 3229 head.
Have used it very succesfully with both 300mm F2.8L IS
and 600 F4L IS lenses. Also the 100-400 IS zoom.
No problems and the quick release is great to have.
