Would there be any technical reasons to limit AF working range to 0-18
instead of (-1)-19 ? Faster AF perhaps? Cheaper?!

I notice that most Nikon's AF working ranges are (-1)-19, while Canon's are
a bit diverse (worst?). Did Canon reduce EOS 1v's AF range to 0-18 to
achieve faster AF? (EOS 1,1n,1nRS AF are all (-1)-18). Or is there any other
reasons why Canon would do that to its top-of-the-line body?

I know I can use the annoying focus-assist light on my Elan7e or my flash to
help AF, but there are times where I wish the AF range on my camera is
bigger!
