I had a bad roll of chromes come back with a significant number of
underexposed portraits. Even using +1/2 and evaluative metering, it was a
persistent problem. The lighting was contrasty, mainly my subjects in
shade with sunlit backgrounds or in shadowy sunlight. My feeling is the
metering is over emphasizing the background and highlights. I think the
solutions are use AF point linked partial metering with the bright
backgrounds and use fill-in flash in the shadowy sunlight. Any
thoughts? I don't think exposure compensation is the answer because some
pictures are exposed okay, especially in even lighting. Thanks.
