Surely, in that case we will need a sensor tending towards square, if not actually square. 1:1 anyone. This would mean that most of the time there would be an awful lot of unused pixels, which would mean an even larger, more expensive, sensor. Think in terms of a 6 x 6 medium format with a full size digital sensor, and then masking to produce different ratios. Hmmm, I think that I will be staying with 35mm film for some time yet. Unless I win the lottery, of course.
