First and most important look ahead what you want to own in a few years.
Buying a lens and then sell it later on because you want a better preformer
is going to be expensive.
I would suggest the following three lenses:
1) 20-35/3.5-4.5. This is a great lens for landscape. It does not focus as
close as the 20mm which might be a problem sometimes. Otherwise I like this
lens a lot.
2) 50/1.8. A fast, high quality, cheap lens covering the gap between 1) and
3) I have the 50/1.4 but if I had been on a very tight budget I would have
bought the 50/1.8 without hesitation.
3) 70-200/4L. I know you said you can't afford an L but this supposedly is a
great lens outperforming most other lenses in that range. Alternatively, you
might want to look for the 80-200/3.5-4.5 (I believe) on the used market.
Supposedly this was quite a good lens for its price.
