Just bought a used Canon 20 mm lens and noticed that there is a small, say 3-4 mm x 1/2 mm defect in the front element. I call it a defect because I am not really sure what it is. It doesn't look like a scratch...maybe a defect in the coating. But it is almost directly in the center of the glass. You can only really see it when you hold the lens in the light and see the reflection off of the defect as a different and more solid appearing color then the rest of the glass (sort of like the color of the reflective portion of a soap bubble). Otherwise it is in perfect condition. Is this likely to be a problem or have any negative effect on the images in this location and focal length?
