Subject: Re: EOS Canon 550EX

Anatoly, I have all three of these flashes. I understand that,
technically,
the 550 EX is better suited to the EOS series, but I find no practical
difference between it and the 500 Super. Both will work ETTL with the
Canon
wireless setup. Both respond the same as slave units with this setup.

I had the 500 Super and bought the 550 for use with the ST-E2 wireless
system and the 420 EX for use as a slave light with that setup. I now
think
I could have saved my money and bought another 500 Super with the same
results.

I'm sure others here have strong views re the 550 and I look forward to
reading their comments.

Jack,

I ordered a 550EX today. I own the Sigma EF-500 and the Canon 540. The
Canon's build quality is a lot better than the Sigma's. The Canon seems
to "recharge" faster and I like the layout of it better. I will follow
up soon with a report on the 550. I will probably purchase another
EF-500 for my wife because she doesn't need the high build quality but
would like E-TTL.
