Hi, Okay, here is my .02 worth. I use the old "big" Quantum Turbo, Quantum supplied me with a power saver insert which is a dummy AA cell with a resistor inside of it. I think the way it works is that the resistor allows enough current for the flash head's internal electronics (which need VERY little power), to operate from the remaining 3 AA cells (4.5VDC), and offer just enough impedance that during flash recycle virtually all of the power needed to recycle the flash head is supplied by the external high voltage battery pack. The internal AA batteries seem to last forever when used with the power saver cell and the Turbo Battery pack much longer than when used with the usual 4 AA cells internally anyway.
