I just recently bought a D60 and find that it is a great camera (for
what is available today in terms of quality/price). I did have the Nikon
5700 for a while and found it not satisfying in terms of shutter lag and
higher noise than D60. It also had very poor autofocus compared to D60
and the D60 is criticized for slow focus! Maybe keep the IIe and add the
D60. You could still use the IIe for when you need extra wide angle
since the D60 has a 1.6 focal length multiplier.

In summary there is a huge difference IMO between a DSLR such as the D60
and a digicam like the Nikon 5700 (and I suspect the G3 is closer to the
5700 than it is to a D60). This applies to both quality of picture and
usability.

I would suggest renting a D60, nut here in NYC rental for a D60 is
150/day, 450/week which is too expensive to just try it out.

Subject: EOS IIe to 7e? G3 or D60?

I'm aspiring to be a serious amateur, looking forward to retirement next

year, and thinking I should get all my equipment bought before the
paycheck
stops coming in. My uses run the gamut -- portraits, night photography,
a
little macro with closeup lenses, architectural, and the usual travel
photos. So -- two questions which I have looked at in the archives,
and
looked at on the web, but you folks are, of course, the experts:

1. Should I upgrade from my IIe to a 7e? The assessment of the 7e in
the
archives seems to be either neutral to negative. Is there any good
reason
to go to the 7e?

2. As a first digital camera, the powershot G3 looks very attractive,
and,
of course, $1300 less than the D60. Is the D60 worth the extra money at

this point?

Thanks!

Sus
