I own the 17-35 and I had before the 20-35. The former has slightly better
corrected distortion at 17 and 20mm but less sharpness. Of course,
obviuosly, has a wider range and USM as the later cannot be MF focused when
AF is engaged. I think the 16-35 has recovered the lost sharpness but I do
not foresee buying it. If one consider best sharpness and distortion as a
true priority over convenience then the way is to buy 14,20,24,28 and 35
primes.
