No.

You want to give the reader a reference first off, and your relevant
reply below. Now did you really have to scroll through the entire
thread above in what I quoted? Plus you can see the person who I'm
quoting.

You don't have the whole thread, no extra crap, no footer, just the
important stuff you're replying to - the part that's relevant. And it
doesn't matter if the reader hasn't gone to check the thread, the
subject, or whatever. Let's face it, we never know how big threads
will be, nor how often many folks join in them, nor when. You might
reply to a small part of any one of a thread.

Instead of whacking out quick one-liners, let each message stand on
it's own, if it's worth sending.

I don't know about you, but I read new messages from each group,
simply jumping to the next new message and so on. I don't go to the
list and check the thread or subject line. I just see a message.

It's not possible to follow a subject message by message if you're
receiving them sometimes days apart. You need some reference to make
it easy to view each one as a whole.

You understand now? Clear, clean and concise. It shows you care, it
works. It's Netiquette. And it's not a hassle. You just have to get
some info, listen to what folks are saying, and try it. You should do
all email in this way of course. Newsgroups, ditto.

AND you misquoted Tom. The wrong names can get messed up in the quoted
from line. Notice my quoted line uses 'wrote/replied to' covering all
the bases. Nothing worse than misquoting a name. It happens all the
time. You quoted someone else as saying what I said. Here it is if you
don't believe me:

I wrote that, not Tom. I guess you made a quick edit without thinking.

I hope this helps.
