If I understand what you mean by "trap-focus," this is a feature on the 
1V.  That is a custom function you can set to take the picture when a pre-
selected point comes in focus.  As to why it's not included on more 
cameras, I can only speculate.  One reason would be that autofocus speeds 
have increase to the point that it is not necessary in most cases.  Another 
reason would be the speed of the "motor drives."  With even inexpensive 
cameras being able to shoot at almost 3 fps, it is seldom necessary to have 
a "get the right timing or miss the shot" incident.  Especially in a case 
such as a jeep coming over a dune.  One could preselect the focus then 
start firing before and keep firing until the Jeep passes.  Just my 2 cents.
