If I use my 300 f4 IS on a locked-up tripod the IS system gets confused and
the well-known floating image occurs.
I imagine that at high shutter speeds this does not matter, it is far
smoother than if I hand hold with the IS off, but at slow shutter speeds it
would certainly cause problems.
Hand holding with a 2x extender, the effect of IS is miraculous.
