Chip,
  Yes, I dabbled with both of those converters.  For me, though, I ended up
using PhotoShop for cropping, color correction, and adding captions into
jpgs before submiting to the paper.  Hence, with the browser in version 7
and the ability to process raw, I get the whole process done with PhotoShop
alone.  Sweet!
