RE: EOS 50/1.8 vs 50/1.4

In the photo.net review, there's a small arguement in the user comments 
about the 50/1.4's barrel distortion.  Indeed, I see it in my chromes. 
Then, in those user comments, some claim that their lenses exhibit no 
distortion at all.  Do any of you have images from the 50/1.4 that are 
positively free of barrel distortion?

Are any lenses absolutely free of distortion visible to the naked eye? 
How about Canon's 100/2.8USM macro?  The 50/1.4 is my only lens.  The 
next will probably be the 100mm macro.
