Of course this is an extreme situation but once I wanted to take photos of crosspolarized ice and the only way I found was to freeze the water between the two polarizers. I used a circular pol on top and a linear under. A while after, the circular pol started to deteriorate from the borders towards the center.

So, don't freeze your wet polarizers.... Sound advice, isn't it?? :- )
