First: the Canon polarizers are made by Canon, in contrast to all
other Canon filters, which are made by Tiffen.
Second: Kaesemann is not just environmentally sealed (important in
humid conditions), but also much more flat (stretched before
sealed/glued), which is important with tele lenses.
(though I don't think Canon uses the Kaesemann concept in their
custom-made polarizers for the larger high-end tele's (slot-filter).
Third: in the past, it was not possible to combine Kaesemann with
multicoating, because the Kaesemann glass is polished 100% flat &
parallel after the glue/sandwich process....and the coating process
generated too much heat for that. But since a year or so their cold-
coating process has improved enough to solve that problem (although I
doubt the coating would be as good/scratch-resistent as the normal
hot-coating version).
Fourth: if you want amazing colors, consider also the Cokin/Hoya mono-
or duo-color polarizers, in particular blue or blue-yellow (though
orange/green is fun too for sunsets).
You have never seen such intense blue skies before....:))
Add an didymium/intensifier/enhancement filter for the other
red/green colors, and your eyes will pop out of their sockets....:))
Willem
(now if only those darn Cokin filters could be disassembled for
modification into panorama-camera filters....these silly things seem
to be totally glued/sandwiched between glass too....:((
