Oh that's simple enough... Try long exposures for light painting... Some of my pictures take about 15 minutes to build; that's 15 minutes of shutter opened in bulb mode. On my EOS-3, the batteries last for weeks under these circumstances. On a digital camera, we're talking about minutes.
