Oh well here goes. The reasons people in the past used 35 was for lightness of kit, portability and lens selection. Certainly not for quality, but quality that could be good enough for a 12 by 18 wall print. Digital can give you that nice 12 by 18. Well someone got out their loupe and said, the 35's got more detail, ya da ya da. Well, if you're a loupe person my answer is medium format should be your format then. As to light painting. One day digital will solve that problem as well. But not all of us are light painters that's for sure. There may very well be niches where 35mm film cameras still work, my sympathies. Methinks medium format would be great for light painting too though.
