Hi Everyone. In case anybody's interested...... I tried it and it sort of worked but only after I unwound it rather than wound. I still get the error 81 but only when I go to release the shutter. Otherwise the camera comes alive! I'm now playing with the menus and going throught all the motions except taking pictures. I was even able to format the cf card! The one other thing that doesn't work is the AF. It doesn't even try but it will do focus confirm nicely on MF. That may actually be a good thing! None of the motors, on or offboard seem to have power. I'm guessing the flash doesn't either. That would mean that the high current line has crapped out. But where it gets it's power from is anyone's guess. Anyway, if anyone knows where the key component might be I'd appreciate a holler. A wiring schematic would be real neat too. Thanks again.
