The introduction of new models has a different dynamic then lowering the
price of one model. This is even more true considering the situation at that
time when few choices were available. At the time of the introduction of the
1d only one other digital SLR was available from Canon, the D30. While it
certainly is a great camera it did lack a lot that many pros/enthusiasts
were looking for. So they did put out the extra big bucks to get the 1D. The
next camera introduced was the D60 which was a considerable improvement over
the D30 - an improvement big enough that for many made the D60 more suitable
then the 1d at about half the cost. So that did eat into the 1d's territory
which probably has lead to a price reduction of the 1D. The next digital
camera was the 1Ds which is what some pros have been waiting for. The
majority of these people don't really care if the price of the 10D is
dropping by a few hundred dollars. They might buy a 10D as a backup but if
they really are in the market for a $7k 1Ds a price change of the 10D won't
make them change their mind. Therefore there is no reason for Canon the
lower the price of the 1Ds. Canon might have other reasons to lower the
price though which they might do at the same time as they do for other
digital SLRs including the 10D. Just my 2 cents.
