I have stuck my neck out and am making a $200 bet. Creative Labs has already announced the new Nomad MuVo2 portable MP3 player with a 4gb 1" hard drive. The drive on this unit is not "removable" but from several sources including a call to Creative tech support, this is, in fact, the new Hitachi 4gb CompactFlash Microdrive with "pixie dust" technology. Both Amazon and Buy.com are taking orders and their price is $199.00!!! They are supposed to be available in about two weeks. The drive itself is showing up for $495 at several photo sites. 4gb flash memory CF cards are way over $1,000.
If everything works according to plan, I can either throw out the Nomad player after the organ transplant or replace the Hitachi with one of my older IBM 1gb drives and give it to my daughter. This drive is formatted in FAT32 mode. The 1Ds is compatible. I don't know what others are. I will keep you posted after I receive the player.
