It probably boils down to the argument of product life-cycle vs stock
around the world....there's little they can do about the thousands of
MP3 players already produced, and there is little they *want* to do
if the product is halfway over it's life-cycle, measured in
quantity....changing production/software/hardware would increase
cost, and that is probably the last thing they want to do, when
trying to stay ahead of competition. And the MP3 manufacturer might
have received all those drives already, for his own stock, not
willing to give them back at all....:))
That, plus the fact that it can only be so cheap because they could
use an off-the-shelf component, generic technology, no wizzards
needed.
Production cycles/batches are probably shorter than those of a
D30....;))
Shame you need FAT32 btw, otherwise even DCS3 owners could use more
than 2GB....;))
(though the counter doesn't show more than 399 frames with 2GB....:))
(btw, if PCMCIA-card readers are taken
