Did you know that those damn things were not spec'd above 1000m or so 
either?....:))
(the read/write head relies on a cushion of air, and either the air 
inside gets too thin, or the casing expands too much (not sure if 
these things are air-tight....one would suspect that, against dust, 
but it might not survive air-transport in that case either)
(now I think about it: how do laptops keep working at that altitude?)

Well, they are theoretical limitations anyway, otherwise there would 
be heaps more complaints from 1D(s) users.

Or perhaps it's just the TFT-screen that can't cope with cold?
(seen the same argument in tests of GPS-units and back-up cameras)
