Hi Ken!

Long time no see!

Years ago we started out with an HP PhotoSmart scanner that scanned both
small prints and slides. After a few years of pretty good scans and being
limited to 2400ppi I needed more resolution (color accuracy and dynamic
range of the PhotoSmart was comparable to the best available at the time IF
you got one that worked right), and decided to move up market.

So after many months of digging around and talking to people I bought a
Polaroid Sprint Scan 4000. I based this decision on the quality of scans
that came out of it and the excellent SilverFast Ai and SilverFast HDR
(think of it as a 16bit RAW program for a film scanners), software that was
included with it. I have been very happy with the scans it produces and
have upgraded the software a few times over the years as they have improved
it. This has made some very good and seeable improvements in the scanners
image quality. Having gone digital last year I don't use it much except for
when I get all hot and bothered and try to make a dent in the years and
years of chromes that I need scanned. Just sorting them is an ugly job let
alone making the best scans I can lol!

But anyway YES! Buy a newer 4000ppi scanner you WON'T be sorry if you buy
the right one! Do your homework on the web and your local club, find people
or a store that has one. Demo it, take your trannies (take a variety of
different types of images), to be scanned then take them home to work with
and examine in your photo editor.
