One of the original poster's comments concerned how expensive the
Quantum Turbo is. The Turbo Z is also quite an expensive option. When
you take into account the cost of the Turbo Z and the connecting cord,
your looking at quite a few $$$ spent in total. Perhaps if the original
poster had suggested a budget range... ;-)

Good point. One alternative would be buying a used Turbo or similar on
ebay. Doesn't Canon have its own battery pack for the 550EX?

Peter,
... and that's precisely why I had specified Canon packs in my original
email :-) I'm hoping for something close to $250. How about sticking
NiMHs in a Canon Compact Battery Pack or Transistor Pack?
