Hi Ken,

Did you download the free ACR 2.1 update? There are other ACR updates going
to be made available in the near future that improve the RAW conversion of
some supported cameras. But the v2.1 ACR update AFAIK was a global
enhancement to the RAW conversion engine. I have tested most of the major
Canon RAW conversion programs and C1 1.3 is the best followed a bit back by
ACR v2.1 and way back in third is Breeze Browser v2.8, followed by YARC+
2.3a7 and in dead last is FVU 1.22 an older but stable version. Current RAW
conversion image quality is a moving target and continues to get better
quickly. I hope that Canon's new RAW converter will improve Canon's RAW
image quality.

C1 is what people widely use to mean Phase One's Capture One Pro (or SE or
LE), DSLR RAW conversion program. Here is a link to Phase One's web site:
http://www.phaseone.com/ Phase One is a high-end digital backs and software
maker based in Europe. They make high-end stuff and the Phase One RAW
conversion technology for Canon's DSLR's has been the best since introduced.
The REAL advantage to C1 though (aside from producing the cleanest
conversion files), is the ability to do so much within C1 very quickly and
batch the output. This continuous RAW correction and processing workflow
allows you to produce the highest quality RAW conversions at very high
volume levels. The resulting conversion files will require very little
external processing from Photoshop because the white balance, black, white
and mid-tone points, exposure, contrast curves, color correction
(saturation, tint, etc.), and a long list of other items can all be
performed in the RAW conversion process with a live WYSIWG interface.
Download the time bombed full products, it will make you giddy to see what
you are missing in your RAW conversion workflow once you figure it out for
yourself. The only down side is that you will need to find another wad of
money to buy a license once the demo runs out.
