Well, you're talking about one of the sharpest 35mm lenses ever there!
Not
really an in joke, since many people recognize Kiron lenses as top
quality. Not only that, but much of the FD glass is as sharp if not
sharper than its EF equivalent, like the 50/1.8. It's a lot of why I
keep
both kits, I've got lots of great glass at a fraction of the cost.

I think other advances have been made in lens design, but not
necessarily
critical sharpness.

Ken,

I had that lens. It was an upgraded version of the legendary Vivitar
Series 1 90mm F2.5 lens. The Kiron 105mm F2.8 did not need the
extention tube to go 1:1 as did the Vivitar (which was made by Kiron).
When I used the Kiron 105 all images were incredibly sharp. It was the
ONLY lens that the owner of the lab where I had my developing done asked
me what lens I was using when I picked up some slides. I explained it
was a Kiron macro I had picked up recently and asked why. He replied
"because I rarely have seen images that shar and detailed unless they
were a larger format." Few macros or modern lenses can match the quality
of the Kiron 105mm F2.8 macros. Its ashame Kiron is not longer in the
SLR lens business. If you can find one grab it. It will put just about
any macro to shame.
