why not just buy the 70-200L

quality and long end would be about the same but you get more zoom and
no converter needed

Most folks who buy the 135 are rich enough to not worry about saving a
bit of cash on a teleconverter, but likely most who get this lens get
it for a specific purpose and don't use a teleconverter on it at all.

The problem is that the ultimate sharpness is lost using a
teleconverter on such a fabulously sharp lens. And if that's the case,
might as well have a zoom.
