Hi Peter,

Brand snobbery maybe? ;)

Seriously, the Canon was a good deal (i.e. cheap!)
and I found myself with two 1.4x converters. The
Tamron was smaller, fits more lenses, pretty much
the same optical quality that I could see and the
same off white colour as the Canon [well you can't
have eveything :) I'd prefer a black one to go
with the 200 f2.8L prime].

So what did I do.... sold it. Hmmm... I must admit
I'm still not 100% sure why, but I found the Canon
had better build quality - the lens mating surfaces
on the Canon fitted to my lenses much smoother and
seemed a bit more solid than the Tamron, especially
with the 70-200 2.8. So I decided to keep the Canon and sell the Tamron. The weather
sealing is a bonus
I guess, but I don't make use of it as my 10D is not
overly rainproof anyway :(

I still happily recommend it though, but I'll agree
that selling it and replacing it with a Canon TC is
a funny recommendation :)

My understanding is that the Tamron SP converter
and the Kenko Pro converters are identical apart
from the name on them. Same design, factory etc.

Cheers
Gary
