Jim: I think you're wrong, too, or have verry sorry batteries. ;-)
On a 10 day trip to Yellowstone this summer, I shot about 1600 images using the grip and 5 batteries without ever charging batteries, all with IS lenses and plenty of composition. And the other poster's comment about only taking one picture a week would only matter for NiMh batteries, lithium ion batteries don't have a significant self-discharge rate.
