For me, it's very important to have great control over the shutter button, in order to get no shake when shooting as I often do in low light at low speeds, even with IS. I have to give it a very soft push. I also have to control whether I take a series of shots or just one, with the shutter button. I can't do that when I'm straining to hold down another button with my thumb on the same hand.
