So, the big questions:
- I own an EOS 3. Is it worth upgrading (ECF is not an issue. It doesn't
work with me anyway)?
- Can I expect to see Canon launching a new pro film camera that will
replace the EOS 3 and 1V (like Nikon just did with the F6)?

I'd be amazed if Canon puts out any new high-end film cameras. Other then E-TTL 2, there hasn't been a whole lot of change on the camera side of Canon's 1 series for quite a while. I mean, the 1Ds mk II is still part of the same family as the EOS 3, and it's over 6 years old. They've spent a lot of effort tweaking the digital side of things, but the basic camera side of things is still pretty much the same.

As for the 3 vs 1v decision, there aren't a huge number of differences. The 1v has a faster frame rate (with booster) and focuses a bit faster. It adds an extra AF button. And it has better weather sealing and higher-quality construction. The shutter should last a lot longer, too. That might matter if you're stuck waiting for 15 years for a decent projector.
