Hi Ken,
No theorizing is needed. Page 46 of the EOS 20D manual states:
"Note that in the Basic Zone modes, the RAW and RAW+JPEG formats
cannot be selected."
Why? I can only guess that it is for the same reason that Custom Functions
are disabled in the Basic Zone modes.
