because a print made from RAW is not possible. No matter what software you
use, it will always have to convert the RAW to JPG or TIFF before it can do
anything with it, including print it; even if it's just in a temp file.

Technically, you don't have to convert a RAW file to anything, TIFF or JPG
if you are using a newer version of PhotoShop. Those are simply formats used
to store the data. Myself, I do 'cause I don't have the RAW plugin for my
version of PhotoShop, v6.

Unless I'm misinterpreting the way PS handles RAW files, when you open a RAW
file in PhotoShop you are simply applying all the exposure and white balance
settings, among others, to the RAW data and you then have simple RASTER
data. It's not a TIFF, PSD, or JPG yet ... just pixels of color data.
