I'd start with plastic milk jugs myself. They might be too thin but it might be worth a try. Hobby shops would have some sheets of white plastic. I'd get some and see if I could cut them into appropriate sizes and glue them together such that they fit over the lens. If glue didn't hold, then some serious tape probably would. Dunno about various colors. I would bet that there are some plastics out there that melt at specific temps. You might be able to make a "mock" flash from a box and then heat up some plastic and wrap it around the box and cool it off, holding it's shape. It might not be important to connect and seal that last edge. Then glue a white front on it. I'd go to the best hobby shop I could find and ask about white plastic. I'd use gel sheets taped/glued on the plastic for coloration.
But personally, I think taking this much time to make one wouldn't be worth it unless your time isn't worth much money....when you're done you'll have several hours into a cheap 20 dollar project, but sometimes those things are fun.

Hello All,

I was planning to go in for a StoFen Omnibounce, when I remembered someone on
this list had once mentioned making something like that from stuff he found at
home (I think it was an empty plastic container of something).

So, can anyone suggest what can be used for a flash diffuser? I have a 380EX.

On the same note, I plan to use the diffuser as a flash filter.

The walls at my home are cream in color and bounced flash photos come out
unusually warm. I thought gentle blue tissue paper on my flash could cure
that.
The walls in a few of the rooms are grayish in color and bounced flash photos
come out too cool, I figured brown or yellow tissue paper in the flash could
help.

I intend to make several diffusers with varying colour casts to play around.

Yes, I know I could use white balance settings, and I have used them, but I
also want to explore the option of using flash filters.

Any ideas for cheap flash filters/diffusers anyone?
