I think I've posted this here before, but if you're interested in the setup I use with a 550EX flash, here goes.
Three or four photos of my setup can be viewed here: http://www.ruscelli.com/canon_550ex_flash.htm What I use is: Redwing Light Stand (the one with that automatically retracts its legs when lifted and automatically deploys the legs when set down). Umbrella (which I close and strap with Velcro strips to the light stand when transporting from vehicle to site and back) Bogen Umbrella Swivel Adapter 550EX Flash and Shoe/Mini Stand (the mini stand that comes with the 550EX is what I use to attach the flash to the Bogen umbrella swivel adapter) Quantum Battery 1+ and Connecting Cord Quantum Battery Clamp (attaches to the light stand and the Quantum battery is clipped onto the clamp). Starting from scratch, this setup would be pretty expensive. But, since I already own an use extra 550EX flashes (~$400), Quantum battery packs (~$150 for the Battery 1+), connecting cords (~$50), and umbrellas (~$30), I had to purchase only the Redwing light stand, Bogen swivel adapter, and Quantum battery clamp to complete the setup (probably less than $150 investment for those three items). Interestingly, in transporting this setup, I can leave it nearly fully assembled when I need to, merely taking off the umbrella and Velcro stripping it to the stand, and dropping the stand down a bit to carry it from the vehicle and back, etc. Makes for a lot less on-location assembly time.
