Also, the lack of depth of field at f/1.0 argument is specious, at best. I've you've got to shoot at f/1.0, what's better, little depth of field or no picture?

The cost to inventory the parts and assemble the lens would drive the cost even higher, significantly higher.

Small DOF would be better, but at what cost? IMHO, I don't think the lens was a "price performer" and those that bought it probably don't use it much.
