Hi Tom,

Close your eyes and trust the force, er rather, the flash meter.

1) With the 550EX set to MANUAL mode, the green light just indicates
Partial charge. It does not glow to indicate adequate exposure.

2) At 24mm FOV and 0.35m (14"), the flash will only just fill a 0.6m
(24") umbrella. I have to use the 17mm wide-angle diffuser in my 115cm
(46") umbrella.

3) If you have an EOS 3 or higher camera, you can use FEL for TTL metering
of manual flash (against a grey card).
