If the target focus is known (ie able to use MF
effectively), then would'nt the Zenitar 16mm f/1.8
with an EOS mount be ideal ? It is cheap (120 USD on
ebay) but perhaps it may have more distortion than
one's liking. Has anyone tried that on a 1.6X ? 

BTW: I read somewhere that on a 10D it is no good
because the 10D viewfinder is a wee bit too small for
MF-ing
