Sensors get more and cleaner sensors. Look at what was available 5 years ago and what is available now. What do you think will be available in five more years? Prices don't dive because camera makers need/want a profit to survive, but camera abilities continue to go up. My lowly 8MP DSLR cost $4500 almost a year ago and now is $700 cheaper. In another 5 years high end digital cameras will probably still be $ 4-8000 but they will all be very clean at ISO 1600 and have WIFI built in, probably starting at 16mp, yada yada. I doubt they will be larger than standard FF simply because neither Canon or Nikon have a lot of lenses made for larger sensors. MF will continue to become more truly digital as film continues to fade into oblivion.

Will Canon enlarge sensor sizes as time goes by? I certainly hope so, but we'll never escape the economics of silicon chip fabrication completely.
