There is one aspect that you are ignoring: film
cameras also advance the fim - that is the whining
sound that you hear of the film advance motor. The
quiter the drive, there less the sound the camera
makes (which is why teh Elan's are quiter - a whisper
drive). 

The mirror as it is flying upwards through the air is
itself making almost no noise at all. When it hits the
upper (roof) there will be a slap and when it returns,
it will slap again as it comes back to its resting
place. 

Two other sources of noise: The shutter release and
the mirror swing motor.

So you see - comparing noise between film and digital
cameras (IMHO) is like comparing apples to oranges.
They may be both fruits, and they may both be tasty,
but they are different.
