As far as others goes, Nikon has done it (24-80) so go buy one of those. Personally i think it's cool that one can have an imaged stabilized 430mm lens on a compact, and i use the long end a lot. Canon themselves do have a 28-100 zoom on the C-60/70.

I agree, I just don't understand the lack of wide-angle lenses in compact cameras.

How often do you need a 400mm equivalent lens? I'd certainly rather have a 24-288 or a 20-240 (with a screw-on converter to go to 400).

When oh when will Canon (& others) finally serve the wide-angle public, and launch a real compact digicam with 24mm-equivalent....;((
